  • Defining characteristics:
    A radiolucency has been detected at the furcation of the tooth indicative of loss of alveolar bone in this region. Furcation bone loss is an indicator of the presence of periodontal disease

  • Common differential diagnoses:
    Severe bone loss at the tooth furcation

  • Helpful additional data:
    Has there been a decrease in appetite? Or the patient appears hungry but is unwilling to eat?

  • Commonly associated diagnostics:
    Consider probing the tooth for further furcation

  • Commonly associated treatments:
    Consider extracting the tooth

  • Commonly associated home care:
    Depending on the tooth removed, consider soft food for 1-2 weeks
