  • Defining characteristics:
    Disruption of the cortex of an appendicular bone.  NOTE: surgical implant disruption of the cortex is recognized under this test panel

  • Common differential diagnoses:
    Fracture due to trauma or pathology.

  • Helpful additional data:
    Was there a trauma (vehicular, dog attack, etc.)?  Was there any limping or change in gait?

  • Commonly associated diagnostics:
    Consider *SignalCare MDB in advance of medical or surgical therapy.

  • Commonly associated treatments:
    Consider temporary splinting if the limb is unstable, discuss analgesia, discuss surgical intervention/repair, and consider strict cage confinement

  • Commonly associated home care:
    Based on treatment, cage rest vs. surgery
